The American Belgian Malinois Club offers the Register of Merit (ROM) title in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class for Malinois owned by ABMC members that have proven themselves to be outstanding “multi-purpose” dogs as evidenced by holding advanced titles and/or titles in a variety of events.

Register of Merit – 1st Class – ROM I
Register of Merit – 2nd Class – ROM II
Register of Merit – 3rd Class – ROM III
All applicants for the ROM title must:
1. be registered with the AKC and have no disqualifying faults,
2. have an OFA number, and
3. be tattooed or microchipped.
In addition, the requirements are as follows:
ROM I (1st Class) requirements:
CH and at least one of the following: UD, HX, VST, AX, AXJ, AXP, AJP, SWM, IPO3, RING 3, SAR, PD.
Dogs must have a CH to earn a ROM I.
ROM II (2nd Class) requirements:
CH and at least one of the following: CDX, RAE, HI, TDX, OA, OAJ, OAP, OJP, SWE, IPO2, RING 2
For non-CH dogs at least one of the following: UD, HX, VST, AX, AXJ, AXP, AJP, SWM, IPO3, RING 3, SAR, PD
ROM III (3rd Class) requirements:
CH and at least one of the following: CD, HS, TD, TDU, NA, NAJ, NAP, NJP, RE, SWA, IPO1, RING 1
For non-CH dogs at least one of the following: CDX, HI, TDX, OA, OAJ, OAP, OJP, SWE, IPO2, RING 2, RAE
Please note:
The ABMC is an AKC club. All titles for ROM recognization must be recognized by the AKC and/or approved by the ABMC board. For working titles, see the ABMC’s Working Dog page. Titles from registries recognized by the AKC can be added to your dog’s AKC record through links on the the AKC’s Parent Club Title Recognition Program page.
ROM is open to all ABMC members.
To apply for the Register of Merit, the ABMC member must submit the following by email to Carolyn Kaiser, ROM Custodian:
- ABMC REGISTER OF MERIT APPLICATION
- scanned AKC registration.
- scanned OFA certificates (hips)
- scanned color photo, dog only, side view.
- scanned title certificates
Once the ROM has been awarded you may Upgrade to a higher ROM class or Update the dog’s titles within their existing ROM class by submitting by email another application to the ROM Custodian, attaching the new scanned certificates.
There is no charge for the initial ROM application and no fees are required for re-applying for a higher ROM class or updating a dog’s titles.
