Regional Specialty Judge Mary Ann Brocious (Wednesday)
Mary Anne has experience as an exhibitor, breeder, dog club official and judge.

Mary Anne began breeding and exhibiting Old English Sheepdogs in 1973 and has bred and owned over 100 OES Champions under the Qubic prefix. Qubic OES have won BIS, BISS and many group wins and placements at AKC events. Many Qubic OES have titles in foreign countries. At the 2012 OESCA National Specialty Qubic OES were Winners Dog, Winners Bitch, Best of Winners and Best of Breed. Qubic OES have attained Top Producing Sires and Dams and Register of Merit awards from the Old English Sheepdog Club of America. While the breeding program has remained small, Mary Anne is proud to have maintained high standards of health, temperament and conformation in her dogs.

Mary Anne has served as a club officer, show chair, AKC Delegate and is a Life Member of the Ann Arbor Kennel Club. Mary Anne served 7 years as Judges’ Education Chair for the OESCA. In 2013 Mary Anne was selected by the Santa Barbara Kennel Club as Herding Breeder of the Year. Mary Anne is approved approved by the AKC to judge all Working and Herding Breeds, PBGV’s and Best In Show. In addition to judging in the United States Mary Anne has judged in Australia, China, South Africa, Taiwan, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Denmark, and Finland.

It is an honor and a privilege to Judge the American Belgian Malinois Club Regional Specialty in conjunction with your National. I look forward to seeing your breed at its very best.

National Specialty Judge Carolyn Herbel (Friday)
I am a native-born Kansan, now living in Oklahoma for nearly 30 years.  I was married to Norman for 52 years, and together we bred registered Hereford cattle, with particular emphasis on an inbred strain developed by the United States Range and Livestock Research Stations. While attending the University of Kansas in we acquired our first AKC registered dog, a German Shepherd named Tabu, a name that was to become in future years our kennel prefix. A prefix that has been carried, not only by over 125 homebred AKC Lhasa Apso champions, but also by German Shepherds, English Setters, Cairn Terriers, Tibetan Spaniels, Japanese Chins, Smooth Fox Terriers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Because of our involvement with stock we have always admired the herding breeds and when our son, Kent and his wife, Lori, also became ranchers there was again a need to obtain herding dogs that were required to be helpmates in the business. When the AKC showed interest in performance events for the herding breeds we all entered the arena with full force, with all becoming herding test and trial judges except me. During those formative times we were closely involved with Australian Cattle Dogs, German Shepherds and Border Collies; however, we also appreciated the various other working/herding breeds. I owned several DC (Dual Champion) Border Collies that are conformation and herding champions, breeding them under our stock brand, XP.

I have many years of dog club experience in both all breed associations and specialty clubs.  I joined an all breed club for the first time in 1959.  I have served in many ways, such as president, secretary, treasurer and BOD of a parent club. Presently, I am a member and serving either as an officer or board member of three all breed clubs, a member of two parent clubs and one regional specialty club.  I have served as the JEC for three parent clubs and am qualified to mentor many breeds.

We lived in Pennsylvania from 1965 to 1975 and during that time, I was a limited licensed professional handler and had the privilege of exhibiting at 100 shows a year which gave me a solid educational foundation on which to build for many breeds of dogs.  I have been an AKC approved judge since 1983 and presently am approved to judge the Working, Terrier, Toy, Non Sporting, Herding Groups and 19 Sporting Breeds.

Although I have never owned one of the Belgian breeds I am especially fond of them and have seen many good ones not only in the conformation ring, but also at the herding events. This will be an especially exciting assignment as it will be a repeat having judged the 2007 American Belgian Malinois Club’s 2007 National Specialty.Thank you for inviting me again.

Sweepstakes Judge Beth Todd (Friday)
I am originally from Boston, Massachusetts but now I call Leavenworth, Kansas home. I have lived there since 1993, when I arrived at Ft. Leavenworth as a soldier with the US Army. As a Military Police Officer, I had the pleasure of working with the Belgian Malinois Military Working Dogs.

I got my first Belgian Malinois in 1991 after researching the breed and knew it was the right breed for me! “Mason” and I started training for obedience competition the day I picked him up at the airport! It was because of Mason that my love for the Belgian Malinois grew. In 1997, I bred my first litter and the kennel name Caveat was born, in addition to my first bred-by Champion “Logan.” Over the years, I have enjoyed showing in Conformation and Obedience and Agility and now have several bred-by Champions that I am very proud of!

It is truly an honor to be judging Sweepstakes at our National Specialty Show and want to thank everyone for this nomination! And I would like to wish everyone a fun and exciting show, good luck in all of your endeavors!
