{"id":10220,"date":"2026-06-11T21:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.malinoisclub.com\/abmc\/?page_id=10220"},"modified":"2026-06-11T21:37:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-12T02:37:54","slug":"health","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.malinoisclub.com\/abmc\/about-abmc\/abmc-committees\/health\/","title":{"rendered":"Health"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Chair: \u00a0<a href=\"mailto:anduin@comm1net.net\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rory Friedow\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>OFA Champion for Health Award<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: revert;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.malinoisclub.com\/abmc\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/Champion-for-Health-Award.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">OFA Champion for Heath Award Nomination Form<\/a><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">Deadline: February 15th<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">The Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) sponsors the annual <\/span><b style=\"font-size: revert;\">Champion of Health <\/b><span style=\"font-size: revert;\">award in partnership with various AKC Parent Clubs. This award honors dogs that have demonstrated significant accomplishments in the show ring, field, performance, or as producers, while also possessing a full complement of breed-appropriate health testing. In 2005, the OFA website featured the AKC\/Eukanuba BIS winning Bloodhound, Ch. Heather\u2019s Knock On Wood. \u201cKnotty\u201d had not only just won one of America\u2019s most prestigious shows, but had a full complement of health certifications as well which led to the 2006 creation of the \u201cChampion for Health\u201d award. The Champion for Health remains in place and sponsored by the OFA today. Each club that chooses to participate in the OFA sponsored CHIC program is eligible to nominate three (3) dogs annually. The winning dog\/owner will receive an engraved medallion, and a $100 donation will be made to the AKC Canine Health Foundation in the name of the<\/span>\u00a0honored dog. The winner will be announced and the award presented at the annual awards banquet.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"><\/p>\n<p><\/span><strong>Nomination Process<\/strong><br \/>\nAny AKC registered Belgian Malinois can be nominated by its owner, breeder or admirer. Each nomination should include a narrative of the dogs accomplishments, including any prodigy and titles they have received and a record of all health clearances. In order to qualify for nomination, a dog must hold at least one AKC Championship title and at least one Performance title. While not required, CHIC registration is highly desirable. Please use the attached form for nomination.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Selection Process<\/strong><br \/>\nNominated Belgian Malinois will be evaluated by the American Belgian Malinois Club Health Committee.
