My first dog as an adult was a terrier mix from a pet store, and my second was a Cairn Terrier in 1985. My first Cairn led me to a pet obedience class and I was hooked. I have trained and shown dogs since 1986. I started with Cairn Terriers, then German Shepherds, and got my first Belgian Malinois in 1998 from Barbara Peach (Trew Bleue). My love affair with Belgians started shortly before that when I fostered a 6 month old Belgian Tervuren for ABTC. I wanted a breed that you could do it all with as an owner handler. One that was smart, biddable and devoted. I cannot imagine my life without them.

I have titled dogs in obedience, agility, tracking, conformation, barn hunt, and herding. Showing and competing with my dogs has been filled with wonderful friends and outstanding dogs.

Thank you for this wonderful opportunity to judge sweepstakes at this historic American Belgian Malinois Club National Specialty, to share the ring with others that adore this breed, and the dogs themselves is a dream come true.

Regional Judge Merle Taylor
Merle Taylor first entered the show ring with a Scottish Terrier puppy in 1970 and has been active in the sport ever since. (His Scottie was second out of three, and he vowed he’d never go back!!!) Mr. Taylor and his wife, Carolyn, bred numerous Scottish Terrier champions under the Jabberwok prefix including Best In Show, National and Regional Specialty winners and has owned champion Bouviers, Affenpinschers, Brussels Griffons, Norwich Terriers, Pointers, and a Beauceron. As a professional handler, Mr. Taylor finished championships in all groups. Mr. Taylor taught high school business for 38 years and began judging in 2000. Mr. Taylor is President of the Champaign Illinois Kennel Club and the Mattoon Kennel Club as well as an active member of two other all-breed kennel clubs. Mr. Taylor has served as Judges Ed Chair for the STCA, wrote the first STCA grooming manual, and most recently, served on the STCA Standards committee. Herding dogs have always nudged their place in the Taylor household as a Bouvier joined the family in the early 70’s, and one has been there ever since. A frisbee-loving Australian Shepherd spent his days at the Taylors, and a Beauceron joined the clan as a puppy ten or so years ago. Mr. Taylor was match secretary for the American Beauceron Club’s A Match and show chair for its first national specialty show. Mr. Taylor currently judges the Terrier, Herding, and Toy Groups.

National Specialty Judge Linda Friedow
Dogs have always been important in my life. As a child it was terriers and spaniels, strictly pets. In high school I started showing my Afghan Hound. While we were out of the placements most of the time, I learned to love the sport and attended shows whenever I could. It was after meeting Rory at Iowa State that I discovered Belgians. He had met one while in vet school and decided it was the breed he wanted. I insisted it be of good quality. That led us to our first Belgian Tervuren in 1979, CH Aerin of Anduin CDX. Aerin earned multiple AOMs at our Nationals and became the foundation of Tervuren of Anduin. Aerin’s great-great-great granddaughter Tilde was Best of Breed at the 2012 ABTC National.

Our start with Malinois was less illustrious but ever so endearing. Fergus came to Rory’s veterinary practice as an abandoned, injured 4 month old. It was December so he couldn’t be left in the kennel, we brought him home and that is where he stayed. He loved our boys and our Tervs. He had some physical problems but despite them he was a perpetually happy dog and a wonderful pet. Unfortunately, we eventually couldn’t adequately control the seizures he developed at less than a year and at the age of 4 we had to let him go. His absence left a void in our home that only another Malinois could fill. I had attended the Belgian Gala in VA in the mid-90s, later we both attended the Malinois National in 1996. These shows led us to Ch. V Friemann’s Spacette and in 1997 Rory flew to Pennsylvania to pick out her daughter, Hester. CH Tresbecc Hystaria of Anduin UD NA was everything we had hoped for; wonderful temperament, beautiful and intelligent. Most important she had that infectious clownish sparkle that we missed so much since losing Fergus.

We have done limited breeding since Aerin’s first litter in 1983 under the kennel name “Anduin” and have been blessed with many great dogs. Rory and I are thankful for their caring, talented, and responsible owners. It is those owners who have brought our puppies to their full potential; whether excelling in conformation, obedience, agility, rally, tracking, herding and or as companions. More important than titles are the special and lasting friendships that we have developed because of our association with the Belgian breeds.

I am a member of the ABTC, ABMC, BSCA & ABLA. I have had the honor of judging the ABTC National in 2004, the ABMC National in 2006 and the BSDCC National in 2013, as well as twenty Regional specialties. I have served the clubs in many roles, from President of the ABTC to duck wrangler at the Prairieland Belgian Malinois club herding trial. I enjoy training my dogs in multiple venues as well as supporting others who also find their happy place in a world with Belgians. Rory and I share our home with four Tervuren and six cats. Our outside animals include a horse, goats, sheep, chickens and another five cats. Our two sons, Caelen and Braden, grew up with dogs and attending Nationals. Now our dogs are training our grandchildren Addison, Carson, and Harrison.

I am so very honored to be asked to judge the 2018 ABMC National as part of the Belgian Nation Celebration.

Conformation, Obedience, and Rally Premium Friday, April 13, 2018 4-6 Month Puppy, Sweepstakes and Regional Specialty & Saturday, April 14, 2018 4-6 Month Puppy, Junior Showmanship and National Purina Farms Gray Summit, MO Conformation Chair: Kathy Greenwood Reserved Grooming Chair: Colleen McDaniel Judges: Sweepstakes – Allison Ward (photo and bio below) Regional Specialty …

["post-684","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry
["GET
